TIERRA LINDA

PARK

A Community Resilience Park in the Heart of the Coastal Range

Tierra Linda is a Community Resilience Park in the Coastal Range of Guerneville in Sonoma County, dedicated to ecological restoration, rewilding, and cultivating deep community connection. Nestled within a mosaic of mixed-evergreen forest, tanoak and bay laurel groves, coastal scrub, and resurgent understory, the park is a living landscape in active renewal—an example of how care, intention, and community participation can bring a place back to vibrant life.

Open by appointment, Tierra Linda invites outdoor enthusiasts, naturalists, birders, learners and teachers, weavers, foragers, artists, makers, and neighbors to step into a space where they can explore, create, gather materials responsibly, or simply take refuge in the rhythms and textures of the land. The park offers opportunities for quiet wandering, creative inspiration, ecological learning, and hands-on stewardship.
At the heart of Tierra Linda is habitat restoration and rewilding: the revival of diverse plant ecologies that support wildlife, strengthen ecosystem resilience, and reconnect people with the native landscapes of the Coast Range. This ongoing work includes restoring native understory plants, rebalancing forest structure through selective thinning, building thoughtful trails that guide human presence, and integrating productive permaculture species that nourish both wildlife and community. Supporting practices such as soil building and watershed and water-capture enhancements help the restored plant communities thrive, improving water quality, reducing summer dry stress, and naturally lowering fire risk. Together, these efforts allow the land to reclaim its ecological identity while offering a tangible model of community-driven rewilding.

The results of this restoration are already unmistakable. As habitat complexity increases and native insects and food sources return, Tierra Linda has experienced an explosive rise in bird populations, making it a rewarding destination for both avid birders and curious newcomers. A rich diversity of songbirds, raptors, ravens, woodpeckers, and seasonal migrants now animate the park’s canopy and understory—transforming the landscape into a resonant soundscape that reflects the land’s healing trajectory.

Tierra Linda is both an open-air classroom and a creative sanctuary, a place where people can learn from the land, participate in its restoration, weave or forage with intention, study native flora and fauna, or simply rest beneath the trees. It embodies the practice of shared resilience: a landscape cared for by its community, and a community strengthened by the living landscape it helps bring back to life. Visitors whether hikers, learners, birders, basket weavers,  artists, natural-material makers, or anyone seeking inspiration or rejuvenation are warmly invited to schedule a visit, walk the trails, gather mindfully, create in place, experience the renewal firsthand, and become part of the ongoing story of this resilient, rewilding landscape.

MADE IN MAINE THE FULL PODCAST!

Designer and restorationist Christopher Reynolds reflects on rewilding, grief, and beauty with Maine as backdrop and metaphor. He speaks of native plants as lifelines, forest work as prayer, and why tending land—any land—is an act of radical hope. A conversation rooted in dirt, memory, and a future worth imagining.
